He may have been in the shadows for the past two seasons, but Jonathan Riles now has a chance to be in the spotlight for the next four years.
Jonathan Riles, a senior guard for the Academy New Church boys’ basketball team, was part of a Lions’ team that was not only nationally known and recognized this past season, but possessed three of the top-ranked players in the nation in their respective positions.
But even while spectators and scouts alike may have been focused on the players who will be playing their college basketball at schools such as Villanova, Syracuse and Pitt, Riles stepped on the court each and every game and made it a point to play the best that he could each night.

I took that as a good opportunity.”
Even in his freshman season, Riles said he was playing behind highly-touted players and was always in the shadows of his upperclassmen, but he never minded the national attention and believes that he will take advantage of the idea of being ‘the man’ while playing for the Tampa Spartans.
“I was Tampa’s number-one recruit and they have three other guards that just left to go overseas,” Riles said, “so I’ll be stepping in as the starter most likely. I want to help lead the team to a Division Two National Championship and I’m looking forward to being the man on the team.”
